Description

The District is seeking a long-term substitute instructional coach to:

  1. Enhance instructional practices at the classroom level.
  2. Make effective and appropriate use of the technology resources provided by the District.
  3. Raise the level of student achievement.

This position runs from: March 18 until the end of the school year.

 

The roles and responsibilities of the coach include:

  • Identifying school teaching and learning needs, barriers and weaknesses by analyzing student data, and organizing and implementing problem-solving actions with teachers.
  • Facilitating school-based, high-quality professional development, working with teachers (in teams or individually) to refine their knowledge and skills.  Professional development could include, but not be limited to, supporting the integration of technology, in-class coaching, observing, modeling of instructional strategies, guiding teachers in looking at student work, developing lesson plans with teachers based on student needs, supporting data analysis, co-planning with teachers, etc.
  • Monitoring instructional effectiveness and student progress using tools and strategies gained through professional development.
  • Building and maintaining confidential relationships with teachers.  
  • Participating in all required coach professional development.  The coach is charged with acquiring the knowledge, skills, technology skills, and instructional strategies necessary to effectively impact the instructional practices of the teachers that are coached.  He/she must remain knowledgeable about current and past research in the specific content area and other pedagogies relevant to the coaching role.  

Qualifications:          

  • Valid Pennsylvania teaching certificate

  • Experience as an instructional coach and instructional leader is preferred

  • Successful classroom experience utilizing current instructional technology
  • In-depth understanding of technology integration, curriculum, and instructional strategies
  • Experience analyzing data and utilizing the data to plan instruction
  • Interpersonal, problem solving, and organizational skills required to effectively facilitate peer coaching and staff development
  • Experience in adult learning theory and conducting staff development sessions

Please note:

The position will be through The Substitute Teacher Service.  The salary will be equivalent to the School District's salary schedule for teachers, but no benefits will be offered through the District.  For a copy of the salary schedule, please visit the Employment quicklink on the bottom of the District's website.  The Substitute Teacher Service hires all incoming long-term substitutes at Step 1 of the appropriate educational column.
